Sage Historical - Original Issue

Sage's Historical Tokens
Original Striking

Augustus B. Sage announced his Historical Tokens Series in late
January or early February of 1859. This first listing included 15 tokens
and the numbering was different than was was actually produced. An
advertisement from June of 1859 listed the 14 that were actually
produced, with the two different dies for No. 1 and 6. These were all
struck in copper, plain edge and approximately 30.8mm. The price for
the set of 14 was $4.00.  For the complete story on this series, and all
of the works of Sage, see David Bowers exhaustive book "American Numismatics
Before the Civil War 1760-1860".
